I do this!
I also add a consecutive letter A.B.C. etc. So that I don’t accidentally over use one or two of the fifteen plus batteries that maintain at my shop.😊
many trades later and the only time a tool gets replaced, is when it breaks. never have i seen otherwise. sounds more like a money problem to me
Or you could just look at the battery port
Does anyone know if I can write on the side of the red part of the M12 batteries?
Every tool and battery, has a serial number.
That serial number is what is used by the service centers to determine when your warranty is good for, whether or not you ever registered the part after buying:
must have plenty of money
When you buy a new tool open up and look at date on battery because sometimes it has been for year and they just put it out do keep the receipts for your record also can log your equipment on company website
The date is on the battery, genius
Yeah, my trick is to use it untill it breaks. Could be 5 years, could be 10. A stupid date on it doesn’t help with that.
makes no sense on electric equipment
Anybody suggesting the gun it’s self and not just the battery is on drugs 😂
Sorry, you wrote on it. Warranty voided.
Only works if you use it every day, but if you only use it a few times a year, proper storage and removing battery will make it last a lifetime.
I use an engraver. Marker doesn’t last
i put my phone number and the cash symbols $
I put reminders on my phone like "Today your drill battery guarantee expires"
Once you write it with perm marker, hit it with a hair dryer on high heat for 3 mins, then its really permanent
Just read the date code in the serial number
That’s why I buy milwaukee tools they last a lot longer
I just keep the receipts, usually in whatever case or bag the tool stays in, but I do like this idea. This reminds me, I’ve got an impact and sawzall I need to go swap out before the warranty expires
Dewalt battery’s are so bad
I write the dates on my tools too, but for different reasons.
I like to celebrate my Anniversary witb my tools. It also helps track my fights with my wife. 😂
They actually have date codes right on them, you can just check that
I just register each DeWalt tool with DeWalt on their website under my username account .. that way I get extra 3 years warranty … but I also use a Dremel engraving tool to inscribe my name and post code (zip) on the actual tool, the batteries and the cases … just in case ….
If you look on the battery, it shows the date it was made. You could tell what year you bought it.
why tf would you throw out a perfectly good tool or battery? Use it until it dies, and when it does, just stop what your doing, go buy one with a set tool fund you have, and go back to work. Theres no argument for "well what if I dont have the money when it does", if your constantly buying new tools every 6 months. Waste of money. Its no different than someone buying a new iphone every year because they need the newest model, or replacing it when the screen gets a small chip, or some of the paint rubs off.
All Dewalt batteries already have the year and month written below the QR code 👍😂
I’ve been doing that for years. I was curious as to how long the things that I buy actually last.
The great thing about DeWalt is that they don’t make you give them a proof of purchase when they warranty your tools. We lied about its age and got a free replacement chuck for our drill that was 2 years out of warranty.
I use the same idea on most of my belongings , tools & property & many other items .
I’m sure nobody at work will steal it now, since I put my name on it jaja
Please post your address and your trash day…
Battery codes. Each one has a serial number that you can look up and date the battery
Yes cause Elijah Jones will steal your tools .
Dewalt batteries come with a production date printed right on the top of the battery, that is the date they use for warranty. Writing the date you bought it doesn’t help with warranty purposes, at all.
Nobody NEEDS to do that….Every power tool nowadays is just like the light bulb, electronics, kids toys, etc. …built to break
How is that leaf blower? I have the model with the battery sitting sideways up top above the fan intake. I love it but if you can please tell me how well that leaf blower is? Any reply appreciated cheers from Australia 👍
Cool. I rotate the 20V batteries between high and low draw tools so they all get used roughly the same. When you need more batteries HD has their annual sale of a 4 and 6Ah battery kit with a free tool for $200.
Not only do this, also take a photo of the receipt. You can then go back to that date in your photos.
I use a fifteen dollar engraving tool from harbor freight to put "stolen from *my name*" on everything I buy. Over time the engravings fill in with grime and they stand out even more. And you can’t wipe it off with chemicals.
If ur tools are clean enough to see the sharpie after a few years.. maybe try using them for once.. 🥴
Why not just look at the label , it says it on there.
Well, for starters, you need to get rid of D Walt and get your hands on Milwaukee
Any tool that doesn’t last 30 years is a shit tool.
Write the date of the AC air filter w a sharpie. Time flies before it needs to be replaced.
Alcohol
#easier and won’t wear off.
If you #Register your tools with dewalt they track the dates FOR you.
My black and decker drill lasted 13 minutes. I really regret not doing this.
Seems your friend Matt is thick as pig-shit… You don’t life-cycle a machine every few years… He doesn’t seem to know what “Built Tough” means.. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I do this as well with name were bought and expired warranty date I use a label maker.
