Mike Makes Power Tool Storage w/ Cord Organization
This week I build power tool organization above my new tool board that we made last week. Each shelf was custom built to hold each power tool with a shelf below that organizes all of the cables.
I was pleasantly surprised with the results. It’s nice to finally have a place to store everything!

What i particularly liked is the length matched my wall studs, so the anchor was goodꉺꉺ>share4.photo/WallHolder?ұӀ Had to buy different screws as the ones provides were easily stripped by my phillips head screwdriver.
Maybe notch the front floor of some pf the top row of cubbies for electrical cords to travel into the bottom section.
It works just fine. I like it.
I love the idea. It’s been a couple of years since you made this video. how is it working out? still functional or another catch all and tools back on the bench?
This is exactly what I was looking for and for the exact same tools 👍🏼👍🏼
YES! A shop with a radial arm saw! Thank you.
out of all the comments, 165,000 views and 7 years…. NO ONE is going to mention the super dangerous practice at 58 seconds of using the mitre gauge and the fence together.
what is the dado blade your using thanks for the great idea
MikeHow did you calibrate the ras to the bench?
watching this makes me miss having my garage and hobby space so much more! Great job!
Ive built homes, swapped out and restored engines on cars, repaired and built custom electronics but let me tell you, organizing is tougher than all!!
For these past weeks I’ve working at it and boy I cannot tell you how much more efficient and satisfying working on things is now.
Great job! I love making custom holders for everything as well, nothing pleases me more than the positive ‘click’ of my tools being placed back into my holders.
You know, I love watching these shop/tool organization videos. I get a lot of good ideas for my own shop by watching them, so thank you for your contribution. Like you, the majority of hand power tools I own are corded, except for the two drills I have on 18-volt batteries. Someone asked me the other day why I still use corded power hand tools? I asked him, why should I replace perfectly good power tools that have several years of life left in them? I’m not, nor have I ever been, a "trend follower". And that is what many are doing. Woodworking is a hobby of mine and not what I do for work. Sure it would be more convenient to have a cordless circular saw or sander, but my corded tools still look and run like new. Plus you can’t beat the power corded tools have over battery operated ones. So, instead of having all my hand power tools scattered around the shop, I’m going to use your design (esp. since there is room for their cords), and build this holder you designed– if that is OK? Thanks for a great build video!!
I love all your videos and was first drawn to your channel by your travel videos back when I was traveling, but these Mike Makes videos are awesome! I love the organizing rack. About how long did it take you to make it?
What are the cords for? None of my power tools have one.
Awesome!
Awesome tool storage Mike! Love the extension cord slots. I wrap mine around the tool and it’s a huge pain.
I am currently organizing my tools and I will be making a copy of that shelf!
I just put mine in a pile.
Just what I have been looking for! Thank you!!
This is what i had in mind – thanks for sharing – In my area security is critical so i would add a closing cover with a lock
Like it —— will copy —thanks !
You just literally saved my mental health 😅! Thank you!
Nice, love that radial arm saw!
This project would have been a perfect candidate for a French Cleat hanger.
Mike, like the design except since there is only one tool in each slot why not just put the cord in that slot?? Seems like wasted space?? I could see it if you stored multiples together to avoid the tangled cords we all get.
Nice to have a table saw!
I like the idea, what if you get more power tools, (you WILL get more power tools)?
Thanks for the video. As soon as my new shop is built I’ll make this my first project. A question about shops. Yours isn’t insulated. do you use air conditioning? What about heat? I’m located in South Georgia. Appreciate any advice. Thanks again, Jack
I love your channel, it’s so professional. You’re just an awesome guy! It’s as simple as that.
I’ve just watched two of your videos and want to build both and just subscribed!! Can’t wait to watch more of them!!
I made it too few weeks ago. Want to know how ? just look for Stodoys.
Hello, very nice
What do you use for the grooves?
Amazing!… thank you, thank you, thank you! My first time seeing you online. I have subbed, and be watching your other videos.
Love your style!
Like the idea, esp the underneath for cable – but – what happens after a year or so when one breaks, you buy the new model and it wont fit in the space! Think more open would be better, also if you bought a new gismo all could shuffle up to accommodate it?
nice radial arm saw
"Doesn’t get much better than that." 3:04
You ain’t kidding! A+ job.
Very efficient. I bet some of the better known woodworkers on here would be a little envious of that shelf.
Thanks. Nice project.
I like this way of organizing power tools and keep the chord in its own spot. I am building it soon, you said the power cord space was 2.5", how tall is the upper section? Thanks
simple perfection. great idea.
Hi Mike. I’m curious why you didn’t put a shelf on the very top of the unit so that additional things could be stored up there? Is it a height issue?
Looks so neat and organized!
Ilike your video very much ,
need more tools
