  1. I do this!
I also add a consecutive letter A.B.C. etc. So that I don’t accidentally over use one or two of the fifteen plus batteries that maintain at my shop.😊

  2. many trades later and the only time a tool gets replaced, is when it breaks. never have i seen otherwise. sounds more like a money problem to me

  3. Every tool and battery, has a serial number.

That serial number is what is used by the service centers to determine when your warranty is good for, whether or not you ever registered the part after buying:

  4. When you buy a new tool open up and look at date on battery because sometimes it has been for year and they just put it out do keep the receipts for your record also can log your equipment on company website

  5. Yeah, my trick is to use it untill it breaks. Could be 5 years, could be 10. A stupid date on it doesn’t help with that.

  6. Only works if you use it every day, but if you only use it a few times a year, proper storage and removing battery will make it last a lifetime.

  7. Once you write it with perm marker, hit it with a hair dryer on high heat for 3 mins, then its really permanent

  8. I just keep the receipts, usually in whatever case or bag the tool stays in, but I do like this idea. This reminds me, I’ve got an impact and sawzall I need to go swap out before the warranty expires

  9. I write the dates on my tools too, but for different reasons.

I like to celebrate my Anniversary witb my tools. It also helps track my fights with my wife. 😂

  10. I just register each DeWalt tool with DeWalt on their website under my username account .. that way I get extra 3 years warranty … but I also use a Dremel engraving tool to inscribe my name and post code (zip) on the actual tool, the batteries and the cases … just in case ….

  11. why tf would you throw out a perfectly good tool or battery? Use it until it dies, and when it does, just stop what your doing, go buy one with a set tool fund you have, and go back to work. Theres no argument for "well what if I dont have the money when it does", if your constantly buying new tools every 6 months. Waste of money. Its no different than someone buying a new iphone every year because they need the newest model, or replacing it when the screen gets a small chip, or some of the paint rubs off.

  12. The great thing about DeWalt is that they don’t make you give them a proof of purchase when they warranty your tools. We lied about its age and got a free replacement chuck for our drill that was 2 years out of warranty.

  13. Dewalt batteries come with a production date printed right on the top of the battery, that is the date they use for warranty. Writing the date you bought it doesn’t help with warranty purposes, at all.

  14. Nobody NEEDS to do that….Every power tool nowadays is just like the light bulb, electronics, kids toys, etc. …built to break

  15. How is that leaf blower? I have the model with the battery sitting sideways up top above the fan intake. I love it but if you can please tell me how well that leaf blower is? Any reply appreciated cheers from Australia 👍

  16. Cool. I rotate the 20V batteries between high and low draw tools so they all get used roughly the same. When you need more batteries HD has their annual sale of a 4 and 6Ah battery kit with a free tool for $200.

  17. Not only do this, also take a photo of the receipt. You can then go back to that date in your photos.

  18. I use a fifteen dollar engraving tool from harbor freight to put "stolen from *my name*" on everything I buy. Over time the engravings fill in with grime and they stand out even more. And you can’t wipe it off with chemicals.

  19. Seems your friend Matt is thick as pig-shit… You don’t life-cycle a machine every few years… He doesn’t seem to know what “Built Tough” means.. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
